This great verse-by-verse commentary on the
Gospels drawn from the writings of the Church
Fathers was commissioned by Pope Urban IV
and translated under the direction of the Ven.
John Henry Newman in 1841.
This edition includes a specially commissioned
introduction by fr. Aidan Nichols OP. It also
contains, for the first time in English, St
Thomas's own substantial dedicatory letter to
Pope Urban IV, in which he describes how the
commentary was composed.
