Welcome to the new Godzdogz!
Godzdogz has moved home…
We’ve joined the new website of the English Dominican Province, alongside Torch, the online Dominican homily resource. This brings under one virtual roof all the online apostolic activities of the Dominican friars of England and Scotland. So, at 1.30pm on 17 February 2015, at our Shrove Tuesday party, this new Godzdogz site was launched by the Editor of Godzdogz, Fr Richard Ounsworth OP.
What is Godzdogz?
Godzdogz is the blog of the student brothers of the English Dominican Province, based at Blackfriars, Oxford. Since 2006, we have been exploring the Catholic Faith and engaging with our contemporary culture through the online media. We post on a wide range of topics, covering the four pillars of our Dominican life – preaching, prayer, study, and community life. Read more about us here.
Why the name Godzdogz? We are called ‘Dominicans’ after our founder, St Dominic, but the word was also a medieval pun on the Latin phrase ‘Domini canes’ which means ‘Dogs of the Lord’. St Dominic’s mother had a dream of a black and white dog with a torch in its mouth setting the world ablaze. This was interpreted to refer to St Dominic and his spiritual children, the Dominican Order – in their black and white habits – whose preaching would bring the light of Gospel truth to shine upon and inflame the world with divine love.
