DYA Study Day: Understanding the Historical Jesus
About the day
What kind of history do the four Gospels provide? Are they reliable? What is the relationship between the ‘historical Jesus’ and the ‘Christ of faith’? Join us for a study day exploring the Gospels as literature, history and testimony. We will also look in more detail at the passion narrative: why did Jesus get crucified? What would a historian conclude about the causes and significance of Jesus’s death? How might these historical conclusions challenge or confirm the Catholic faith?
The day will include talks, workshops, prayer, fellowship, and discussion, and lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend, but booking is essential.
Speakers
Fr Richard Ounsworth OP is the prior and parish priest at Holy Cross Leicester, and he teaches Scripture and New Testament Greek at Blackfriars, Oxford. After completing his undergraduate and masters at Oxford, he finished his doctorate there on the Letter to the Hebrews.
